All Day Benefit for Steve Hentnik The Amvets Post 2000 is sponsoring a benefit for Steve. Steve recently had an operation that resulted in the amputation of his foot. 10:00AM 5:00PM Harvest Festival at the Farmers' Museum A perfect blend of new attractions and trusted favorites make the 36th annual Harvest Festival the most entertaining celebration of fall in the area. Live performances, family activities, crafts, demonstrations, and storytime. Animals are always a large part of Harvest Festival. Take in the whole museum on a horse-drawn wagon ride. Marvel at demonstrations of dog obedience and agility. See cuddly alpacas and watch their agility in an obstacle course. Many artisans show-off their skills; learn from blacksmithing, printing, spinning, and fiber art demonstrations. Harvest Fest includes the chance to help with harvesting potatoes, beans, corn, and hops. Children enjoy agricultural activities that include corn shelling and grinding. They can also enjoy the Children's Barnyard. You'll even watch apples pressed to make fresh cider. An abundance of delicious foods from the season's harvest.
12:00PM 5:00PM Celebrate Birth 2014 Better Births for CNY is pleased to announce “Celebrate Birth 2014” at the Jewish Community Center, 2310 Oneida St in Utica. This event is to raise awareness of birth choices and services in Central New York. Local agencies attending include: Mohawk Valley Breastfeeding Network; Mohawk Valley Perinatal Network; Care Net; Healthy Families of Oneida County (a divisions of Kids Oneida); and Mohawk Valley Doulas. There will also be special speakers, a children's clothing sale , local crafters, and family activities and demonstrations including the NYS Troopers doing car seat checks and adjustments. The keynote speaker will be Esther Zorn; speaking on “Telling the Story”, her story of cesarean birth followed by a VBAC (vaginal birth after a cesarean) and the beginning the of Cesarean Prevention movement in Syracuse,NY which later became the International Cesarean Awareness Network (ICAN). Other speakers include: Merideth Geers, CNM, MSN (Family Tree Midwifery); Mary Yoder, DO (Chiropractic Family Care); Susan Niedzielski, IBCLC, CDN.
