Howie's Bio

Howie Davis spent three years in the military, playing the trombone in a U.S. Army Band. He's attended seminary. He had his own TV show for a couple years and has seen Gretchen Wilson without makeup (do tell!)! Howie is a big fan of board games, and cannot be beaten in a game of Scrabble (you hear that Silvers!?!). In his spare time, he manufactures and markets his OWN board game creations through PLAAY Games. He and his wife Cara have three kids, and are trying to figure out how to pay for college for all of them.

Q&A with Howie Davis:

1. What is the weirdest thing about you? That I am a huge New Orleans Saints fan, despite the fact that I am not from that area, or even CLOSE to it! I started following them when I was 11 years old, living in Wisconsin, because I liked their helmets...

2. What are the book, the Movie and the song that has had the most impact on your life? BOOK: The Bible. MOVIE: "American Graffitti," it’s what got me interested in radio (Wolfman Jack). SONG: Hmmmm. Maybe "Place In This World," Michael W. Smith? Or, Steven Curtis Chapman, "For the Sake of the Call."

3. If you could turn pro in one sport, what would it be? Football, no doubt. Indoor lacrosse would be second, though.

4. If you could be on a reality show, which one would it be? "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire."

5. What sound or noise do you love? Which one do you hate? LOVE: cheering crowd at sporting event, especially coming from the Superdome. HATE: Alarm clock going off.

6. Your favorite celebrity moment? Helping anchor the MTV Video Music Awards in 1986. Meeting Billy Kilmer in 1980. Riding in the elevator with Ed McMahon in 1997. Interviewing Billy Joel, three different times, fun every time. Talking football with Toby Keith when he was just starting out and nobody knew who he was. "Bluffing" my way backstage at the Atlantic Records 40th Anniversary Show, NYC, 1988. Talking with Sandra Bullock about old buildings, her passion. Interviewing Boy George--when he was popular! Co-hosting a charity event with Jack Ingram. Too many more to mention...

7. If you could fix one thing with the world what would it be? Saints in the Super Bowl...maybe this year...seriously, find a cure for childhood cancer, or AIDS.

8. Craziest job perk you can come up with? You mean a REAL one, or a desired one? REAL: not having to get all dressed up to go to work. DESIRED: Hmmm, how about ten weeks vacation each year--with free use of the company credit card.

9. Who are your heroes? Hate to sound like a broken (football) record, but Drew Brees for one: "too small, too slow," made it to the NFL, and then has to come back from serious shoulder injury after everybody had written him off. John Records Landecker is another hero, from radio, the old WLS days.

10. Favorite vending machine food? Pop Tarts--but few machines have them!

11. Personal Motto? "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

12. What song gets stuck in your head the most? Right now, a dance track from a Romanian group called Ozone, "Mai Ai Hee." Also have been stuck on "People are Crazy," especially the part that goes, "front page obituary, he was a millionaire-he..."

13. What is your Dream Car? Used to be a late 1940s GM woody wagon, but now those things are too valuable to be driven any more except parades. So I’ll go with a 1974 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser; emerald green with wood grain trim. If you can’t get me one of those, I’ll take a Buick Estate Wagon, same year, same color scheme.

14. Who would you like to see on money? I’m pretty satisfied with the people who are on money right now...

15. Do you have any interesting habits? Can’t think of any...

16. Last purchase over $50? Materials for my board game business; boxes, mailers, etc.

17. What did you want to be when you grew up? At first, a car designer; then, a sportscaster; finally, a disc jockey.

18. What is your fondest memory? Summer vacation, 2005, me and the wife and kids rented a cabin on the shore of Lake Superior for a week.

19. The song that fits me best now is? "Lucky Man," Montgomery Gentry.

20. Where do you go, or what do you do to "get away from it all?" Grab my Bible and find a quiet place to reflect, pray, meditate. Second choice, get a good sports board game and some table space somewhere quiet.

21. What’s your wildest dream? To see one of my board game creations on the shelves of Target or Wal-Mart.

22. What is your proudest moment? Taking my twin daughters home from the hospital. Graduating college, top of my class.

23. What is your biggest challenge? Hebrews 13:5, "Be content with what you have."

24. What would be your perfect day? Sleep in til 10a, wake up, have breakfast at Denny’s, plays sports board games all day with buddies, eat junk food, then hop in a time machine, go back to 1978 and do 10p-2a on WLS.

25. What was your first job? Washing dishes at a Country Kitchen restaurant.

26. What or who is your inspiration? Mostly men from the Bible--Jesus of course, but also men like Joseph, David, Daniel, but also Nehmiah, Paul, Barnabas...many more...
